{"id":1126,"date":"2024-12-18T13:57:36","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T18:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/harttalbot.com\/?p=1126"},"modified":"2024-12-18T13:57:36","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T18:57:36","slug":"what-is-dam-as-a-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/harttalbot.com\/index.php\/2024\/12\/18\/what-is-dam-as-a-service\/","title":{"rendered":"What is DAM as a Service?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are several models for deploying Digital Asset Management (DAM).\u00a0 In the traditional model, an organization buys a DAM product (for example, Bynder), then trains their own organizational resources to administrate and support the DAM.\u00a0 The model can be tweaked slightly if the organization decides to augment its DAM support staff (or its entire support), to an external organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new model is emerging: <em>DAM as a Service<\/em>.&nbsp; In <em>DAM as a Service<\/em>, the entire DAM operation is provided as a service to the organization; the DAM product licensing, its day-to-day operation, and full-client support are leased on a monthly or yearly basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0In the past, organizations have been reluctant to outsource because of security concerns. However, the benefits of outsourcing the entire DAM operation are compelling, especially if cost and speed-to-market are critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The table below presents the pros and cons of three models:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><tbody><tr><td><strong>Function<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Fully In-house<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>Company-owned DAM with External Support<\/strong><\/td><td><strong>DAM as a Service<\/strong><\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Support, including account creation, help desk, training, and ingest<\/td><td>Provided by company resources<\/td><td>Provided by a mix of company and external resources, or fully external resources<\/td><td>External resources<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Security<\/td><td>Most secure<\/td><td>Secure<\/td><td>Less secure<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Cost<\/td><td>Expensive<\/td><td>Moderate<\/td><td>Low<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Time to Deployment<\/td><td>Long<\/td><td>Long<\/td><td>Quick<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Support Expertise<\/td><td>Brought-to-speed gradually<\/td><td>Good<\/td><td>Solid<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Customization and Flexibility<\/td><td>Solid<\/td><td>Solid<\/td><td>Good<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The following example demonstrates savings using the <em>DAM as a Service<\/em> model, assuming number\/size of assets are similar:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Annual DAM product cost: &nbsp;&nbsp; $60,000<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Annual DAM support:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 $80,000 (two asset librarians at $40K per year each)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TOTAL:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>$140,000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>DAM as a Service<\/em> Model:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0$48,000 ($4,000 per month)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Annual Savings:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>$92,000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Security concerns:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Asset security is a valid concern and the major reason used to justify an in-house DAM solution.\u00a0 Security issues arise when assets aren\u2019t fully protected; exposure of these assets can be a result of poorly managed account security.
